It’s possible to maintain high energy levels and a positive mood throughout rainy days. Even if it seems the rain is endless, and you feel like the sun has disappeared for eternity.

And while it’s never a bad idea to have a “stir crazy” indoor dance party, here are my top 5 rainy day tips that will keep you energetic, healthy and happy!

Take Your Vitamins
Your body always needs Vitamin D and Vitamin C, especially during rainy season and winter. It’s best to start taking the vitamins now and every morning, if you don’t already, and keep the routine regular. Almost all of us are Vitamin D deficient, which is a disservice to our health! Especially when it boosts our energy and mood.

Eat Frozen Fruits
And if you eat fruits like oranges, pineapple and papaya, for example, those can replace Vitamin C supplements. If your favorite fruit(s) are not in season, try frozen instead. There are some amazing brands, although they might be a bit more expensive, it’s worth the expense. You’re getting the nutrients needed to make you feel great! And the perk of using frozen fruits in smoothies is that you don’t need to add ice!
Indoor Exercise Routines

This would be an ideal time to join a local fitness center. If you’re unsure about it, most of them offer a free trial! It wouldn’t hurt to at least check it out. Or, you can find free fitness channels on YouTube. Even better, grab some friends (or go solo) to a hot yoga class. Whatever you decide to do, just keep your body moving and maintain a morning routine. It’s better to get it out of the way first thing, and your metabolism boost will set the tone for your day.

Get Color Happy!
Grey clouds. Grey sky. Darkness in the morning and night. That starts to beco
me a real downer!
Change out your light bulbs to ones that have a pure bright light. Add some pops of color to dull or neutral toned areas of your space. The time of year or season doesn’t matter; it’s what makes you feel happy. A fresh, bright home is uplifting!

Good Hygiene
It’s tempting to stay indoors when it’s raining. Who wants the hassle of figuring out rainy day activities? And it’s quite cozy to cuddle up with an enjoyable book or watch movies. Rain is almost like an excuse to nap and be lazy. But, keep in mind that germs spread faster when we’re indoors frequently, so, keep your living space clean and sanitized. Don’t skip on daily showers or baths. The last thing anyone wants is being stuck inside with a nasty cold or worse.

Also think of making home-cooked meals, spending time de-cluttering your space, and maybe setting some personal goals. Planning to work on yourself emotionally, physically or spiritually is very motivating, especially when you see results. Your goals should be fun, however, and not “work.” While this list could keep going for a while, these 5 tips are beneficial, simple and easy to put into a daily routine.

About the writer:  Chaukei Ngai

I was born in Hong Kong, two months premature and because my lungs were not developed enough to breath on my own, I was put on a ventilator. My whole young life, I always felt like I was struggling just to catch my breath, and many took many trips to the hospital in order to get oxygen. This went on till I was in my 20’s. Then, when I was student at York University in Toronto, I went to my first yoga class and my life completely changed. I’ve never looked back. It was the first time I ever experienced a real connection to my body. I found my passion, and my calling. I found stillness. Eight short years after that Bikram’s class in Toronto, I became the International Yoga Asana Champion. And I have my beautiful son who does yoga with me. I always say that Yoga taught me how to breathe, but it’s also the fire in my life that propels me forward, both spiritually and competitively.
