If you’ve been wanting to detox your body, we’ve got some great (alternate) ideas how to do it without fasting or juice diets.

You can detox by doing small things each day! Like getting enough rest, cleansing and nourishing your body from the inside out.

Here are several detox methods to implement into your lifestyle

Get rid of the alcohol, coffee, and saturated fats.
These are stored as toxins in the body and get in the way of your body’s natural healing process. (Try to minimize using chemical-based household cleaners, beauty/health care products and use natural alternatives instead.)

Drink fresh veggie juice daily.
There are all kinds of recipes out there, and look for ones that have lots of greens such as kale and spinach. Or, apples, carrots and some spices and flavor like lemon, ginger, and turmeric. Fresh, local, seasonal fruits and veggies are the best choices.

Sweat those toxins out!
Exercise can help your body better flush out toxins and burn fat more quickly. Maybe some hot yoga or intense training? Just find a consistent routine that suits your needs and works with your schedule.

Bentonite Clay for the win.
Clay is such a powerful anti-bacterial and perfect for a heavy detox. Mix a tiny amount of pesticide-free bentonite clay powder with 8 ounces of water. If you continue using it more often, start slowly and work your way up to a teaspoon or more.

Start the morning with lemon water.
Getting hydrated with lemon water first thing in the morning will keep your body in peak condition. Always go for filtered water to avoid added toxins.

Ultimate skin-care routines.
Get yourself a nice, soft dry brush and use it on your skin before your bath or shower. (Focus on cellulite areas and you will definitely see a difference.) The exfoliation boosts circulation and promotes new cell growth. Adding Epsom salt to your bath is an excellent cleanser of the mind, body and soul, overall.

Minimize white sugar intake.
Or try to get rid of it altogether. It’s hard because we know that sugar is right up there next to being addicted to cocaine. It’s true! It helps to avoid substitutes that contain artificial sweeteners, so try out natural versions such as honey or maple syrup.

Eat more antioxidant-rich foods.

This is another one of the best things you can do for your body. Besides the leafy greens and vegetables in your veggie juice, eat organic proteins like fish and chicken, and foods like sweet potatoes and tomatoes, blueberries, dark chocolate, and cranberries.

Remember to talk to your doctor first before trying new health treatments, herbal supplements and natural remedies.

About the writer:  Chaukei Ngai

I was born in Hong Kong, two months premature and because my lungs were not developed enough to breath on my own, I was put on a ventilator. My whole young life, I always felt like I was struggling just to catch my breath, and many took many trips to the hospital in order to get oxygen. This went on till I was in my 20’s. Then, when I was student at York University in Toronto, I went to my first yoga class and my life completely changed. I’ve never looked back. It was the first time I ever experienced a real connection to my body. I found my passion, and my calling. I found stillness. Eight short years after that Bikram’s class in Toronto, I became the International Yoga Asana Champion. And I have my beautiful son who does yoga with me. I always say that Yoga taught me how to breathe, but it’s also the fire in my life that propels me forward, both spiritually and competitively.
